Michael Penny

Michael PennyConsultant (Head of the Veitch Penny Personal Injury Department)

Experience

Michael has over 30 years experience in Claimant work and is aware of both sides of any argument having been the head of the Insurance Department for many years. He has been involved in high profile and leading cases, both in the Court of Appeal and House of Lords.

Michael founded the Exeter office in the late 1970's and has been recognised as a leading individual in Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession.

Andrew Harris

Education:

Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Crediton, Devon

Experience:

Andrew entered the law straight from school, became a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1980, and was admitted as a solicitor in Dec 1982 when he first joined Veitch Penny.  He is a personal injury claims specialist, heads our Motorcycle Claim unit,  and is a member of APIL

A qualified Motorcycle Observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists, he also supports the British Motorcycling Federation as a founder member of their Biker Legal Line service. Andrew is a  past Chairman of his local Round Table and 41 Clubs, of the Governors of a local Primary School and of local charities within his home town.

When he has time to play it is usually on two wheels and Andrew is currently Secretary of Devon Advanced Motorcyclists (DAM).

 
Jim Dykes

Jim began his carrier in Law working in the property and conveyancing department at Stephens & Scown in Exeter. He soon developed an interest in Personal Injury, and moved to the Plymouth based Law Firm, Goldberg's, where he specialised in Personal Injury work. After 3 years, Jim moved back to Exeter his 'home' town, and re-joined Stephens & Scown : progressing to Partner within the Personal Injury department.

2003 - Present
Jim joined Veitch Penny in August 2003, bringing with him a wealth of experience that has made him an invaluable member of the department and a team leader. Jim's expertise includes Road Traffic Accidents, Accidents at Work, Trippers & Slippers and Medical Negligence.

Jim is a Member of APIL, Exeter Medico Legal Society and the Local Law Society.

Outside of work, Jim has an interest in Rugby and Football.

 
Frances Macdonald

Frances MacdonaldClaims Handler - F.Inst.L.Ex

Working within the court works section, Frances dealt with summonses, witness liaison, criminal law and road traffic accidents.

1999 - 2000 - Reynolds Dawson Solicitors, London
General office work.

2000 - 2002 - OH Parsons
Handling claims for miners, in-particular Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome and Respiratory Disease.

September 2002 - Present Day - Veitch Penny
Frances works within the Personal Injury department as a Legal Executive. She manages her own caseload of Road Traffic and other accidents and deals with the general public on a day-to-day basis. 

She is a Fellow of ILEX and the Exeter Medico Legal Society.

Frances' hobbies are singing, swimming and walking and she belongs to the Northcott Theatre Community Company.

 
Catherine Rosewell

Cathy joined Veitch Penny in 1999 as a Legal Secretary.  In 2000 she was promoted to Claims Assistant soon becoming head of our Uninsured Loss Depatment.  Nowadays she manages her own injury compensation workload, including Road Traffic Accidents and Employers' Liability claims.

She is a Fellow of ILEX.

Cathy's hobbies are horse riding, going to the gym, keeping fit, socialising and reading.

 
Sarah Hunt

1990 - 1994 - Anstey Sargent & Probert
Employed originally as an Office Junior, Sarah worked her way up through the company from a Secretary with case handling duties where she dealt with 1500 debt files, to finally becoming a Credit Controller.

1994 - Present - Veitch Penny
Sarah joined Veitch Penny in May 1994. She headed the Cat 3 department until 2003 before being promoted to Costs Negotiator for the Claimant Department.

Sarah is a member of Devon County Council Residents Panel.

Outside of work Sarah enjoys socialising, reading and swimming.

 
Christopher Voaden

Experience:

Christopher joined Veitch Penny in September 2001 as a Paralegal and has been with us ever since. Christopher manages his own workload and specialises in Personal Injury, Road Traffic Accidents and Employer's Liability. He does his own advocacy, from applications at court to full hearings.

His hobbies in life are walking his dog, playing golf, coppicing his woods and making electronic music on his PC.

Christopher is a member of The Inner Temple.

 
Gemma Sparks

Experience:

Gemma joined Veitch Penny full time in 2004 when she completed her A levels. Gemma recently passed her HNC Legal Practice course and aspires to qualify as a Legal Executive next. We are not surprised, for after fronting our client reception team, and now with a case load of her own, Gemma’s confidence and experience grows daily.  
In her spare time Gemma enjoys watching films, reading and swimming.

 
Lydia Stuart-Banks

Experience:

Lydia joined Veitch Penny Solicitors full time in July 2007. She is the newest and youngest member of this expanding team. She has been training to become the sole Client Reception Co-ordinator to co-ordinate all incoming personal injury work. Lydia is enthusiastic and hard working and will begin her own legal training in September.

In her spare time she enjoys shopping, socialising and keeping fit.
